High School Groups and Bvlgari Perfume

One of my most vivid memories of high school was the social groups that teenagers formed outside of the classroom. There was the intelligent, or geeky group that always got straight A's and played chess during lunch. Then there was the sports group that spent their whole lunch hour kicking around a soccer ball instead of eating. The artsy group spent their free time doing extra art projects or practicing for the school play. And then there was the popular group. The popular girls would douse themselves in perfume, especially Bvlgari perfume if they had more money.

High school was a time when you had to associate yourself with a particular group and there weren't always individuals who stood out alone. There was a lot of social pressure to be part of a certain group and the need to categorize yourself. Everyone always, sort of in a joking way, made fun of the intelligent group, even though they secretly admired them and wished they could be like them. They always did the best on the tests and homework assignments. Some of them were even the teacher's pet and did special things for the teacher like get them water or clear off the whiteboard. They were generally good kids who meant well.

The sports group was more of a louder bunch. While the smart kids were playing chess at lunch and working on their homework assignments, the sports kids were either on the soccer field or basketball court getting ready for the next game. They were seriously into sports and even wore their sports jerseys the whole day at school. I remember they were always lucky because they got to leave school early for sports tournaments.

The artsy group was very talented. Some of them worked on art projects in their spare time. One girl was asked to design a mural for the school and she spent many lunch periods sketching out what she wanted to create. Another boy sat at a ceramic wheel every lunch period. He probably had a whole collection of pots he had made at school in a room in his house. The theater group would spend their lunch time in a room singing, acting, or dancing, or even practicing an instrument. There was a very talented girl who could play the piano, guitar, flute, and recorder and she would sometimes perform for people at lunch. She was always asked to play for the next musical in school.

Finally, there was the popular group. Everyone wanted to be them but no one wanted to be like them. They always had the trendiest clothes and school accessories. The girls would spend their lunches in the bathrooms doing their hair and putting on all sorts of perfume, like Bvlgari perfume. The guys would hang out and just talk around the lunch tables but then sometimes go to the bathroom to check themselves out in the mirror. Those were the good old days of high school! Everyone had their own club to feel a part of.
